A spokesperson for the Safer Disinfectant Network said:
“New guidance issued by the Health and Safety Executive on the manufacture and supply of surface disinfectants is extremely welcome.
Washing your hands alone will not reduce the risk of transmission, and that’s why it’s right that the importance of surface disinfection, particularly in high touch areas, is highlighted.
First and foremost, the products we use need to be effective. Manufacturers should be required to meet high clinical standards and demonstrate their efficacy.
This new guidance is a step in the right direction but we would like to see it go further through the introduction of more rigorous checks on products. We’re committed to working closely with Government and the HSE to make sure we get this right: protecting the public from suppliers making misleading and unsubstantiated claims.”
